For many aspiring professional drivers, the journey begins in the karting paddock. Recognizing the challenge of moving from karts to full-sized race cars, World Speed Motorsports (WSM) is continuing its commitment to grassroots driver development.

The team has announced that the 2026 ROK Sonoma VLR Senior Triple Crown 2 Champion will be awarded a complimentary, two-day training program at the World Speed Academy.

A History of Driver Development

World Speed Motorsports has a documented history of helping young racers transition to the professional stage. The effectiveness of the WSM program is reflected in its alumni, with past award winners including established professionals such as Scott Speed, Joey Hand, Michael McDowell, and Conor Daly. These drivers utilized the WSM pipeline on their way to competing and winning in premier series worldwide.

The F4 Transition

Transitioning from karts to formula cars requires structured development and valuable seat time. Team Principal Telo Stewart points to the ROK Sonoma program as a practical pathway to professional racing.

“The VLR Champion’s proven skill and experience are a perfect match for Formula Pro USA,” Stewart explains. “And the World Speed Academy F4 training program is the ideal stepping stone.”

Current 2026 Prospects

WSM’s support of ROK race winners and champions has consistently yielded results in recent years. Drivers such as William FergusonVal GarbarinoKyle LohMichael AvansinoRidgeley Welsh, and Yashom Kapoor have all secured open-wheel victories and championships with the team’s backing.

This momentum continues into the 2026 season with WSM’s current roster:

  • Erik Doan: After securing the VMB Scholarship, Doan made a strong debut, capturing two second-place overall finishes in the Formula Pro USA F4 Championship during his first weekend out.
  • Yana Kapoor: Kapoor has also demonstrated impressive pace, taking two wins in the Formula Pro USA WRS F4 Championship and currently holding the WRS points lead.

For the upcoming ROK Sonoma VLR Senior Triple Crown 2 champion, the World Speed Academy program presents a tangible opportunity to follow in these drivers’ tracks.
