Coming off of an exciting victory at Texas, Scott Bradley was able to maintain the momentum as he brought his #14 Polycom/Shames Construction/Peak Travel Group Star Mazda home in second place today in Round Two of the Star Mazda Series North American Championship at Sebring International Raceway. The second consecutive podium for Bradley, who finished behind Texas third place finisher, Chad Block, gives him a small points lead as the series take3s a two month break before Round Three at Bradley’s home track of Sears Point.
“I’m extremely pleased to be leaving here with the points lead,” Bradley said. “Of course it would’ve been nice to take another victory but Chad got a good start on us and we had a clean race.”
Bradley started on the outside of row one for the event and a strong start saw him through to first after lap one before Block was able to overtake him. “Early in the race when the tires were coming up to temperature Chad was able to build a bit of a lead and I was able to close up on him towards the end but not close enough to pass,” Bradley said afterwards.
Fellow World Speed drivers Rick Waddell and Frank McCormick battled through the race to finish 26th and 28th respectively in the 34 car field. Waddell was happy to be around for the finish after his race was cut short at Texas after another car dropped oil in front of him and sent him into the wall. McCormick battled a loose condition in the first half of the race and the car developed a misfire as the laps wound down.
The Star Mazda Series will resume activities in May at Sears Point Raceway in Sonoma, California, and World Speed looks to have positive results at their former headquarters.
